AIP/ Paleo Curry Powder: It Can Be Done

AIP/ Paleo Curry Powder Blend - no nightshades or seed spices

By now, you all know my love for all things spicy and you've all probably figured out that I'm crazy busy most of the time, so anything I can do to save time in the kitchen is a good idea in my book. Eating spicy food and saving time....two of my favorite things.

With that in mind, I decided to create the one thing that would meet both of those desires - a curry powder. This can easily be stirred into soups and curries or sprinkled on veggies to be roasted or used to season fish and bonus is that I don't have to measure a bunch of things and only have 1 spoon to wash. YEAH!

In the weeks and months to come, be on the lookout for recipes using this spice blend. I just need to whip up another batch and get to cooking.

The beauty of this curry powder blend is that it gives a depth of flavor to your Indian inspired dishes without the seed spices or nightshades. The spices and herbs all work well together, but the star of the mix is the ginger. Since I love ginger so much, I thought I'd wow you with my poetic skills. I know. I know. Don't quit your day job.

An ode to ginger....

Oh ginger how do I love you?
Let me count the ways.
You have become my favorite spice.
I'll love you all of my days.
Oh ginger how do I love you?
Let me count the ways.
You're always there for me,
When all the others are nays.
Oh ginger how do I love you?
Let me count the ways.
My food is no longer bland;
You've brought me out of my haze.

What are you waiting for? Gather up your spices and get to mixing. You too can have curry tonight.

AIP/ Paleo Curry Powder
Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp powdered ginger
1 Tbsp powdered garlic
2 Tbsp powdered turmeric
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp crushed curry leaves

Method:
Mix all ingredients well and store in a glass jar for future use.
If the cilantro, curry & fenugreek are large leaves, you may way to crush in a mortar & pestle or a spice grinder.

OPTIONAL:
If you've reintroduced seed based spices (stage one reintroduction- learn more about reintroductions here), you may want to add one or more of the following for a more 'traditional' taste. I'll be honest, even though I'm ok with most of these 95% of the time I stick to the completely AIP blend. It has come to represent 'curry' to me.

1 Tbsp ground cumin
1 Tbsp ground coriander seeds
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp black pepper
