Apple Spice Breakfast Patties

Why is it that if you eat a patty of ground meat in the morning it's called sausage, but the rest of the day it's a burger?? Whether you call these burgers, patties or sausage and no matter what time of day you eat them, you'll be sure to enjoy them.

These Apple Spice Patties work well on their own, as part of a complete breakfast (alongside veggies, fruit and maybe part of a sweet potato), or crumbled up in soup. I particularly like them in my Garlic Carrot Soup.









Apple Spice Breakfast Patties


Serves: 6 (makes 12 patties)
Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (or a combination of beef & pork)
- 1 medium apple (my favorite is the Jazz Apple from New Zealand, but whatever you like will work)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
- 1 T dried sage
- 1 T dried thyme
- 1/2 t ground cloves
- 1 t ground cinnamon
- 1/2 t sea salt
- 1/2 t garlic powder
- oil/ fat for frying

Method:
- grate the apple (including the peel)
- mix meat, apple, onion and all spices until well combined
- form into 12 small patties
- heat 1 T oil/ fat of choice over a medium heat in a frying pan/ grill pan
- place burgers in the pan - don't overcrowd the pan - cook in batches
-  cook about 4 minutes on each side until patty is cooked to your preferred doneness
